Statement of the Conditions of Service applicable
to the post of Officers in the Colonial Police Service
Appointment The probationary period is three years from the date of arrival in Hong Kong. On the satisfactory completion of this period an officer is eligible, provided he has passed the examinations prescribed by local regulations and subject to the approval of the Secretary of State, for confirmation in his appointment.
Salary. The salary is at the rate of £520 per ammum rising to £1,050 per annum by 6 annual increments of £25, 1 of £90, 5 of £30,
1 of £40 and 2 of £50.
3 Residential allowances. A non-pensionable allowance at the rate of
10% on the first £400, 5% on the second £400, and 21% on airy balance up to a maximum of £1,200 per annum is payable while the officer
is in actual residence in the Colony. Had focadaxxis payable during the

Quarters. If unfurnished Government quarters are provided 12,5 is deducted from salary. If furnished Government quarters are provided an extra 1% is deducted.

General Conditions of Service.
A member of the Colonial Police
Service is subject to the Special Regulations of that Service, to the General Orders of the Government in which he is serving, and to the Colonial Regulations for the time being in force. Copies of the current editions xxkbexfpecial *Begodxoxxxxxxxx of the Colonial Regulations (Part I) are attached.
6. Security.
The holders of certain appointments in the Colonial Service are required to furnish security for the faithful discharge of their duties. Normally all premiums payable in respect of such recurity may be deducted from an officer's salary.
7. Pension. The rate of pension in Hong Kong is 1/600th of pensionable emoluments on retirement (i.e. final salary plus any other emoluments which were pensionable) for each completed month of pensio.able service. Pensions are payable subject to completion of 10 years service and to retirement on ground of age or ill-health. Pension may be converted, subject to option exercised within a prescribed period, into a reduced pension (3/4ths of full pension) together with gratuity (10 times 1/4th of full pension). Retirement on pension is permitted or may be ordered at any time on or after attaining the age of 55 or i. special cases with prescribed approval, on attaining the age of 50. A confirmed officer retiring on the ground of ill-health before completing 10 years service may be granted a gratuity;
